Abstract

This study was conducte to examine the effect of infrared laser auriculotherapy on experimental pain threshold. Sixty four health female and male subjects. Ageed 21 to 29 years. Were assigned randomly to a treatment group or to a placebo group or
to a
control group. subject in the treat group received laser stimulation. And subject in the placebo group received sham stimulation to appropriate acupuncture points on the right ear. And control group received no treatment.
Extperimental pain threshold at the ipsilateral wrist was determined with a painful stimulus before and after ear stimulation.
Treatment group exhibited a significant increase (P<0.05) in experimental pain threshold after auricular acupuncture point stimulation.
The control group and pracebo group did not exhibite significant pretest-posttest difference in experimental pain threshold (P>0.05).
But there were significant inter-group pretest-posttest difference in experimental pain threshold by two way analysis of variance.
The results indicate that infrared laser auriculotherapy can inerease pain threshold. Further research is needed to assess the effects of these techniques on a greater variety of groups of pain sufferes.
